ABOUT

Luke Mombrea is a composer, sound artist and music producer originally from Oakland, California. His work spans a variety of mediums including live performance, studio recordings, installation, dance, and film. Luke’s work often utilizes electroacoustic processing, improvisation, microtonality and archival folk materials.

His music has been performed internationally by ensembles including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. His piece, Redwood Hymn, was premiered by the LSO at the Barbican Centre in June 2025. In November 2025, he won an Ivor Novello Award for his composition Black Gold, also performed by the London Symphony Orchestra.

Luke regularly works in audiovisual spaces collaborating on installations and live A/V performances. Luke’s production and A/V work have been featured at SXSW, Berghain, Hammer Museum, The Wallace Collection, the Venice Biennale, Barbican Centre and LACMA.

While studying at UCLA, Luke was introduced to the film music industry by interning and then working at Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions. He then traveled to London where he graduated from the Royal College of Music with a Master’s of Music in Composition.

Since then he has regularly worked as an orchestrator on large-scale film, television and game projects including Silo, Loki, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Emancipation, Frozen Planet and the Final Fantasy series. His orchestrations have been recorded at Abbey Road, AIR, Fox, Warner Brothers and Sony studios.

Luke has scored films that have premiered at numerous major film festivals such as at Cannes, BFI London, Berlinale, Venice, TIFF, Tribeca and Sundance. He recently completed the score for Point Unknown, a pilot being developed by HBO/Warner. Luke’s catalog is represented by Peermusic. He is currently based in Los Angeles.
